The Durham County Wildlife Club is located off Hopson Road in the heart of the Research Triangle Park, within minutes of Raleigh-Durham International Airport, and convenient to the Raleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill areas of central North Carolina.

Primarily a shotgun oriented facility offering trap, skeet, and sporting clays, the club does include a pistol range, with target positions out to 100 meters. (Only .22 rim fire rifles, or pistols firing "classical pistol cartridges" may be used. Not allowed are pistols firing high-intensity bottle-neck type rifle cartridges or ANY center fire rifle. Black powder pistols are allowed, but not BP rifles.)

More than just "a place to shoot," the club has 96 acres of land, which includes an eleven acre lake complete with picnic tables and a large clubhouse. These are in addition to the well manicured shooting facilities. Forty acres of the property remain wooded, offering a serene respite from the pressures of life in the Triangle.

The club grounds and clubhouse are available for use to community minded civic and sports-person's organizations, and are currently used by groups such as the Boy Scouts of America, The Durham J-C's, The Triangle Fly-Fishermen and others.

No hunting is allowed on any of the club's grounds.

Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays

The club has seven Shotgun Ranges for shooting. Fields one and two are used for trap with field two lighted. Fields three through six are used for skeet with fields four five and six lighted. Field seven is used for five stand sporting clays.

The club hosts several shotgun matches during the year for trap and skeet.

Pistol Range - The pistol range features a covered, poured concrete firing line, with fixed target positions at 7-1/2, 12, 25, 50, and 100 yards.

Pistols firing "traditional pistol cartridges" (up to .50 AE) can be used, as well as .22 caliber rim-fire rifles. (Not allowed are ANY center fire rifles, black powder rifles, any fully automatic weapons, or devices that simulate full automatic fire.)

Informal pistol competition includes falling-plate, IDPA Style (International Defensive Pistol Association) and PPC (Police Practical Combat) competitions. Shooting events are held Tuesday evenings. Shooting year round weather permitting, and are open to the public.

Formal competition is offered in NRA Hunters Pistol Silhouette, Small Bore Hunters Pistol Silhouette, Small Bore Rifle Silhouette, and Small bore Cowboy Rifle Silhouette. These matches are NRA approved and in 2008 will be held on the third Sunday of each month March through November.

The Lake - For fishing, the Club has an eleven acre lake which is stocked with bass and crappie. For general enjoyment, the lake area is complete with a covered shelter, several picnic tables, and barbecue grills. Although no power boats are allowed, members may fish from their own boats or the shore.

The Archery Range - Adding to the exclusive mix of shooting sports available at DCWC is our 20 acre 'Walk in the Woods' Archery Range. Offering a fully certified National Field Archery Association 28 Target course, as well as Olympic Style targets, 3-D Animal targets, Practice Range with tree-stand and broad-head target.
